Olivia Miles leads WNBA's May league awards after terrific debut

Olivia Miles is taking home the first league honors of her professional career.
On Wednesday, June 3, the WNBA announced that the Minnesota Lynx guard won Rookie of the Month honors for May. During the month, Miles averaged 15.4 points, 5.1 rebounds, 5.9 assists and 1.5 steals per contest.

The former Notre Dame guard scored in double digits during eight games in May, including four games with 15 or more points. She also had seven games with five or more assists.
As she turns the corner into June, Miles is now tied for seventh in the WNBA in assists per game (6.3), while ranking 10th in steals per matchup (1.7) and 20th in points per game (15.8).
Miles' recognition by the league is on the list of standout performances to begin the season.
Reigning MVP A'ja Wilson won the Western Conference Player of the Month, her 14th time taking home the award. During May, the Las Vegas Aces star averaged 24.8 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game.Atlanta Dream star Allisha Gray won Eastern Conference Player of the Month. The three-time All-Star averaged 20.4 points per game, plus 4.1 rebounds and 1.3 assists per matchup.
Rounding out the monthly awards for May was new Portland Fire head coach Alex Sarama winning Coach of the Month. Under Sarama's leadership, Portland held a 6-4 record and led the league in forced turnovers (16.7) and points off turnovers (19.4) per game, plus opponent field goal attempts allowed per game (62.9). The Fire also ranked top five in steals per matchup (8.1), field goal % (45.7) and free throw % (81.1).
