Who will play quarterback for Texas Tech after Brendan Sorsby's exit?

The Texas Tech Red Raiders will turn to a new quarterback this fall after the embattled Brendan Sorsby declared for the NFL Supplemental Draft on Monday night.

Redshirt sophomore quarterback Will Hammond is the next man up in Lubbock with Sorsby out of the picture. While Hammond is recovering from an ACL tear sustained in 2025, he's expected to be ready to go by August.

Why Brendan Sorsby won't play for Texas Tech this fall after all

Hammond threw for 680 yards and seven touchdowns in eight games last fall for Texas Tech before his October ACL tear. Transfer quarterback Kirk Francis, previously at Tulane, and redshirt freshman Lloyd Jones III could also factor into the quarterback conversation for Texas Tech if Hammond isn't ready to play by the start of the season.

As of now, Red Raiders fans should expect Hammond to start if healthy with Sorsby gone. He's the most likely option, as long as his ACL recovery is going as planned.
