The San Francisco 49ers organization has had a rough few months with a few former players dying. Unfortunately, they lost another member of their family on Saturday, as the team announced that Aldon Smith died Saturday morning at just 36 years old.

Smith played collegiately at Missouri from 2008-10, earning All-Big 12 honors in his final season with the Tigers before the 49ers took him in the first round (No. 7 overall) in the 2011 NFL draft.

In four seasons with the 49ers, he appeared in 50 games and recorded 152 tackles, 81 quarterback hits, 44 sacks, five forced fumbles, five passes defesned, one interception and one fumble recovery. He also made one Pro Bowl and All-Pro team and helped San Francisco get to a Super Bowl.

Smith also played for the Oakland Raiders and Dallas Cowboys. However, his NFL career was often interrupted by suspensions related to off-field issues and violations of the league's substance abuse and personal conduct policies.

Here's what the 49ers said in their statement:

We are devastated by the sudden and tragic passing of Aldon Smith. Aldon’s undeniable talent and sheer dominance on the field were on display from the moment he joined our organization, having recorded one of the best rookie seasons the National Football League has seen. Beyond his excellence as a player, Aldon will be remembered for his infectious smile that lit up every room he walked into. Our entire organization sends its deepest condolences to the Smith family and all who knew and loved Aldon.”
