It also allows the future Hall of Famer to be reunited with his old coach, Mike McCarthy, the same coach that he had won a Super Bowl with while with the Green Bay Packers.
There was speculation on Rodgers’ future in the NFL, after his season with the Steelers, and many believed that last season was going to be his final one.
However, there was also hope internally that Rodgers would stay for at least one more year in the Steel City.
And in hopes not to create an offseason stir like last season, the Steelers had placed an UFA tender on him, which blocked him from signing anywhere other than Pittsburgh until July 22.
However, the interest in a reunion was mutual.
That internal hope that emanated throughout the Steelers facility, turned into reality after Steelers General Manager Omar Khan revealed that he and Rodgers’ representatives were in discussions.
Rodgers visited Pittsburgh last weekend in the midst of Steelers rookie minicamp to get an idea on what he was getting into.

“We’ve had communications with him and his agent,” Khan said on the Deebo & Joe Podcast. “One thing I’ll say is this time of the year, it’s great for these young guys. We have a new coaching staff here, and they just got off the field a little bit ago. The time they’re spending knowing each other and allowing our coaches to develop and grow, not just the quarterbacks but all these guys, it’s very precious.”
The Steelers don’t have a shortage of young talent now, as they drafted former National Champion Will Howard in 2025, and now selected Penn State’s Drew Allar in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft.
Rodgers will look to continue building on his chemistry with both wide receivers DK Metcalf and Calvin Austin, while also getting acquainted with newly acquired receiver Michael Pittman Jr.
Pittsburgh now has its QB1 for the short-term future, and a quality mentor to its young quarterbacks who the Steelers hope to develop into the long-term answer.
