Jacks fall to St. Michael-Albertville in season finale

May 16—ST. MICHAEL — The Bemidji High School softball team will end its regular season in a loss.

The Lumberjacks fell to St. Michael-Albertville 8-2 on Saturday in the regular season finale, finishing with a 12-8 record.

Bemidji scored the first run of the game in the third inning, an RBI single from Olivia Birt. In the bottom of the inning, the Knights scored four to take a 4-1 lead, never relinquishing it the rest of the game.

The Jacks would score one more run: a Clara Sherwood solo home run in the fourth inning to make it 4-2. STMA would tack on four more runs — including a three-run sixth inning — to win 8-2.

BHS could only muster four hits off of STMA starter Stella Maulik, who went seven innings and struck out 10 Lumberjack batters. Ridley Hadrava had the best day at the plate, going 2-for-3.

Karley LaZella was in the circle for the Lumberjacks, giving up nine hits and striking out five in six innings.
