The Chicago Cubs' new recruit Alex Bregmanhas admitted that he has no plans to quit his home in Arizona—even after signing a $175 million contract with the Illinois-based team that will see him based out of the Windy City for the next five years.

Bregman, 31, sparked huge speculation about his future in the MLB when he chose to opt out of the remaining two years on his contract with the Boston Red Sox to become a free agent. Many suggested that he was angling for a position with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Having based himself out of Scottsdale, AZ, for many years—buying a house in the area where he now lives with his wife, Reagan, and their two children, Knox and Bennett—it seemed only natural that Bregman would sign with his home team.

But the third baseman threw a major curveball in January when it was announced that he had signed a huge contract with the Cubs, a decision that saw him and his family relocating to Illinois, where they will reside for the entirety of the MLB season.

Yet Bregman has now revealed that—while he is excited for his future with the Cubs—he has no plans to walk away from Arizona, telling the Wall Street Journal that he and his wife will retain their Scottsdale home and continue to use it as their primary residence, living in Chicago only for the duration of the season.

"We’ll continue to live in Scottsdale, but we’re looking for a house in Chicago for the baseball season," he explained.

As for what he was looking for in his ideal home in the Windy City, Bregman admitted he had just one major ask: a backyard with ample space for him to play baseball with his children, who are already exhibiting a keen passion for the sport that has turned their father into a star.

"When we’re shown a property, I walk straight to the backyard to see if there’s room to play baseball with the kids. Reagan looks at everything else," he joked.

Though Bregman was born and raised in New Mexico, where his father, Sam Bregman, is now running for governor, he revealed that his home in Scottsdale has ties to the property where he grew up.

"Our house is similar to the one I grew up in," he explained.

The MLB star added that his home boasts a sizable backyard, where he can teach his son Knox the basics of baseball.

"I love that it has a big backyard. Knox is 3 and already playing T-ball," he shared.

Property records show that Bregman and his wife only recently purchased a new residence in Arizona, a sprawling 5,000-square-foot dwelling that was snapped up in October 2025 for $5.8 million.

In addition to its sprawling backyard, the four-bedroom abode offers amenities that were no doubt of great interest to the sporting sensation, including a sport court, swimming pool, and spa.

However, he told the Journal that his favorite "diversions" in his home, in addition to the yard, are the "pool table and ping-pong table."

The property is now one of several in Bregman's portfolio, which includes a Houston penthouse that he purchased while he was playing for the Astros, the team that drafted him as the second overall selection in the 2015 MLB draft.

While he had put that sizable dwelling on the market in 2023, with an asking price of $3.3 million, records show that the home did not sell. It is still registered under the trust that Bregman used to buy it.

Measuring more than 3,900 square feet, the sky-high dwelling has three bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms. It is one of four penthouses in a luxury complex known as the Giorgetti Building.

Additionally, Bregman maintains strong real estate ties to his hometown of Albuquerque in the form of a five-bedroom dwelling that he purchased in 2016, according to records.

While New Mexico does not require the disclosure of residential sale prices, records show that it had previously been listed for $1.25 million. That price was dropped to $990,000 around two months before Bregman closed on the home.

With the Cubs set to kick off their MLB season with an opening game against the Washington Nationals on March 26, Bregman and his family have officially installed themselves in their new Chicago residence, having enjoyed time at home even during spring training, which the Chicago team held in Arizona.

Bregman has made no secret of his ambitions with the Cubs—revealing in February that he has already set his sights on a World Series appearance, noting that he feels fully prepared to take on the reigning champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers.

"One of the things that is so fun is playing October baseball," he said, according to Sports Illustrated. "I feel like that’s why we play the game. I want to play October baseball at Wrigley."

However, his initial goal, he said, was focusing on getting to grips with the team.

"I’m excited," he said. "Just getting ready for the season, and doing it out here for the first time, I’m looking forward to being around the guys and getting rolling."
