THREE PROPERTIES INSPECTED IN JOHANNESBURG ILLEGAL CONNECTIONS CRACKDOWN
Three properties were inspected in Johannesburg on Tuesday, 23 June 2026, as part of a citywide operation targeting illegal electricity connections. The Mayoral High Impact Service Delivery initiative is currently conducting the operation across the city to disconnect properties found with illegal connections, according to an X post by City Power Johannesburg.
The first property, on Northumberland Street in South Kensington, was found with a bypassed electricity meter. It also had an open circuit connected to the meter, indicating possible tampering and non-compliance with municipal regulations. The property received a level one disconnection, a disconnection whereby electricity is switched off in a lockable distribution box.
The second property is located on Galteemore Street in Kensington. The site consists of an open space where a kitchen and car wash are being operated. An inspection was conducted to locate the electricity meter; however, no meter was found on the premises, suggesting the property may be drawing power without a registered connection.
The third property inspected was located in a different area on Idah Street in Cyrildene. The property is a residential premise used for dwelling purposes. After a thorough inspection, no irregularities, tampering, or non-compliance issues were identified. The property was fully compliant.
