Scotland rues early goal in loss to Morocco: 'Wish we could start again'

FOXBOROUGH, MA – Scotland entered its second 2026 World Cup match at Boston Stadium hoping to earn a positive result and potentially clinch passage through to the tournament's knockout round.
Instead, the collective Tartan Army was left ruing an early-game mistake that allowed Ismael Saibari to score just 72 seconds into Friday's match – a goal that proved to be decisive in Morocco's 1-0 victory.

"I wish we could start again," Scotland manager Steve Clarke said when asked what was going through his mind after conceding early. "That would have been the first thing."
Saibari's goal came after the 25-year-old was able to get behind the Scottish defense and receive a long pass from Brahim Diaz.
Saibari then got control of the ball just outside of the 6-yard box and blasted it into the top left corner of the net, giving Scotland keeper Angus Gunn next to no chance to stop the shot.
