Florida adds former Oregon State RHP Zach Edwards via transfer portal

Florida baseball is adding another former Oregon State Beavers pitcher through the transfer portal, right-hander Zach Edwards, according to Baseball America's Jacob Rudner.

Standing at 6 feet 2 inches and weighing 230 pounds, the rising junior has thrown 44 1/3 innings across 34 appearances — all in relief — during his two-year collegiate career, posting a 5.68 ERA and a .231 batting average against. Over that stretch, the Riverton, Utah, native struck out 59 batters against 20 walks while allowing 39 hits, including three home runs, along with nine wild pitches and three hit batters.

Edwards appeared in 16 games as a freshman in 2025, posting a 1-0 record along with a save and a 5.79 ERA, striking out 22 against nine walks with a .239 batting average against over 18 2/3 innings. As a sophomore, he appeared in 18 games, posting a 2-0 record with a pair of saves and a 5.61 ERA, striking out 37 against 11 walks with a .224 batting average against over 25 2/3 innings of work.

According to Rudner, “Edwards sits 95-96 and is up to 99 with a cutter. He drew a 60% whiff rate on a mid-80s slider with big horizontal break.”

He joins southpaw Trey Morris in following newly-hired pitching coach Rich Dorman from Corvallis to Gainesville this offseason.

Florida Gators transfer portal movement

Seven Florida arms have entered the transfer portal: McCall BiemillerEli BlairMatthew JenkinsRivers KurlandCooper MossChristian Rodriguez and Cooper Walls (Georgia). Starting second baseman Cade Kurland is headed to LSU. Infielder Kolt Myers and outfielder Blake Brookins are the two other position players to enter the transfer portal so far.

Florida earned its first transfer commitment from former FGCU catcher Jon Embury, the 2026 ASUN Player of the Year, on June 4, followed by Jacksonville State right-hander Maddox McDougall on June 9. Oregon State southpaw Trey Morris followed pitching coach Rich Dorman to Florida, Utah State infielder Kyle McDaniel committed on June 16, and FAU infielder and former Gator John Martinez announced his return to Gainesville on June 18.
