What Are the Odds That the Houston Rockets Win the 2026-2027 NBA Western Conference Finals?
· Yahoo Sports
According to Pinnacle, which is regarded as the sharpest sports book in the world, the Houston Rockets currently have less than a 3% chance to win the 2026-2027 Western Conference Finals. Bettors currently have the opportunity to bet on Houston to win the conference finals at +3503: a measly $10 investment would return $350.30 . Although the Western Conference is a stacked division, with San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder being the clear favorites, I am struggling to see why the Rockets odds are so low.
If there is one thing I learned from this year’s NBA playoffs, is that both the Spurs and the Thunder are probably both overrated. Both teams were heavily favorited to win both the NBA championship and the Western Conference; both teams are currently nearly equal favorites to win the 20206-2027 Western Conference finals, with implied odds around 40% each (+145 odds on most sports-books). This would mean that all the other teams combined have around a 15% to win the trophy.

Between the Houston Rockets, the Los Angeles Lakers, the Golden State Warriors and the Denver Nuggets, I am almost dumbfounded at the implied odds. In fact, Fan Duel is valuing the Rockets to win the conference at just +2000, which has the implied odds of around 5%. Although Pinnacle is widely regarded as the sharpest sports-book overall, FanDuel might have the sharpest lines when it comes to the NBA.
Houston's leader and MVP is the one and only Kevin Durant. Durant is unfortunately nearing the end of his career, and it is assumed that his only goal is to win more rings. He took a huge salary cut so that he could join the Rockets and keep the roster under their salary cap. This shows his intent is much more oriented towards winning, and less towards making money. It also shows how much faith and trust he has in Houston's team as a whole.
Defense wins championships, Durant wins championships, and favorites are typically over rated. Houston has an amazing defense, they have Durant, and are a dark horse with an upcoming and rapidly improving young roster. You can almost taste the eagerness of the Rockets to win, and the implied odds of 3% to win the conference finals almost seems disrespectful. What does Houston need to do to become a bigger threat to the powerhouses and a true competitor in the eyes of the books?
