Contract details for new Atlanta Falcons offensive tackle Wanya Morris

· Yahoo Sports

The Atlanta Falcons could still use a splashy move or two this offseason to boost their units at wide receiver and the interior defensive line. Yesterday, Atlanta's new-look front office did make a notable move, but of the more pedestrian variety. Adding offensive tackle depth tends not to be sexy. However, it's the kind of transaction that keeps a roster healthy and a team competitive in the long run.

The Falcons have sent a 2027 sixth-round draft pick to the Kansas City Chiefs for left tackle Wanya Morris and a 2027 seventh-rounder. The trade seems to be a bit polarizing in the national media, with ESPN giving Atlanta an excellent B+ for the deal but CBS Spots only giving them a C-.

Morris provides depth at both right tackle and left tackle, which the Falcons needed both of after placing swing tackle Storm Norton on the Reserve/PUP list yesterday, putting him on the sideline for the entire 2026 NFL season.

If nothing else, Morris is not going to cost Atlanta much even if he doesn't work out well on the field. According to Over the Cap, Morris will be playing out the final year of his rookie contract in 2026, with a cap number just over $1.7 million. His base salary is only $1,482,048 and he has no more guaranteed money left on the deal.

Morris does have a path to the starting lineup if he can beat out former teammate Jawaan Taylor, who hasn't participated yet this offseason for undisclosed reasons. If he wins that right tackle competition the Falcons will have an extraordinarily cheap and young starter at a key spot. If not, he should still serve as a solid swing tackle. You'll hear no complaints from us on this trade.
