According to a notice issued by the city’s Communication, Marketing and Events department on 9 June, the outage will run from Saturday, 27 June to Sunday, 28 June, from 08:00 until 18:00 each day.

Why is the power being cut in Tshwane?

The City of Tshwane says the interruption is essential to carry out critical work tied to the ongoing Pyramid 132kV Substation Refurbishment Project. The planned work includes stringing and connecting a newly constructed 132kV bay at the Pyramid Substation and installing a concrete-slab perimeter fence between the Pyramid high-voltage yard and the Rooiwal 132kV switching yard.

“While the interruption may cause temporary inconvenience, the work will contribute significantly to the long-term stability and performance of the electricity network,” the city said in the alert.

Which areas will be affected?

Residents and businesses in the following areas may experience power outages during the interruption period:

HB Powerline, DP Powerline, PP Powerline (Petro Port Garage), Pumulani Toll Gate, Doornpoort Toll Gate, Montana Park, Montana Tuine, Montana Estates, Zambezi Country Estates, Doornpoort Extensions, Sinoville Extensions, Kolonnade Mall and Retail Park, GR Powerline, P 94A & B Powerline, Waterworks Treatment Plant, Pyramid Clinic, Pyramid Area, Rooiwal Town, Vastfontein Area, Waterval Area, Grootfontein Area, SAR sub (railways), East Lynne, Waverley, Silvertondale, Lindopark, VAe Powerline, VAw Powerline, EB Powerline, and HK Powerline.

What should residents do?

The City of Tshwane is urging affected residents and businesses to make the necessary preparations before the outage begins. Critically, all electrical installations must be treated as live throughout the duration of the interruption.

“The city apologises for the inconvenience that may result from this essential infrastructure work and appreciates the patience and cooperation of affected customers,” the alert read.
