Lenawee County athletes earn three titles at the D3 track state finals

LENAWEE COUNTY — Lenawee County athletes delivered an impressive showing at the MHSAA Division 3 track and field state championships in Kent City, highlighted by three state titles and numerous all-state finishes.

Clinton led the County girls teams with a tie for eighth place alongside Erie Mason, scoring 19 points. Olivet captured the team title.

On the boys side, Adrian Madison led Lenawee teams, placing 12th in a three-way tie with Ottawa Lake Whiteford and Maple City Glen Lake. Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central won the boys team championship.

State Champions

Clinton freshman Wyatt Dehring captured the Division 3 100-meter title in a wind-aided 10.75 seconds, defeating Elk Rapids freshman Garrett Godden (10.79). Dehring also qualified third in prelims at 10.87 and later contributed to an all-state relay.

Clinton sophomore Ella Claus won the girls 400-meter dash in a personal-best 57.99, pulling away from Ithaca senior Izabelle LaLone by nearly a full second. Claus improved from ninth place at last year’s state finals and finished the season with eight wins in the event, including a regional title.

Adrian Madison’s boys 4x200 relay team of junior Wade Garza, senior Bryson Ballantyne, junior Derrell Tillman and junior De’Lante Garrison won the state championship in a school-record 1:30.01, edging Elk Rapids (1:30.07) in a photo finish. The Trojan relay units finished the season undefeated across all variations.

Athletes earn all-state honors

Dehring added a second all-state honor, helping Clinton’s 4x100 relay team of junior Jimmy Schaffner, senior Cory Hoover, junior Peter Baker and Dehring place seventh in 43.96.

Clinton’s Bella Bannon claimed runner-up honors in the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 3 inches to finish second.

Clinton sophomore Khloie Miller secured all-state in the pole vault, placing eighth at 9 feet, 6 inches.

Claus led the Clinton girls effort with her state title performance in the 400 and also anchored the 4x200 relay team ofMiller, junior Bella Bannon, junior Madelyn McGraw and Claus to 15th place in 1:50.27.

Adrian Madison junior Iyana Borders earned all-state in the discus with a fourth-place throw of 120 feet, 4 inches. Borders also competed in the shot put, placing 11th at 34 feet, 4.25 inches.

Blissfield senior Hope Miller delivered a strong distance triple to end her accolade filled career, earning all-state in two events. She placed fourth in the 1,600 (5:08.64) and fifth in the 3,200 (11:20.90), while also finishing 11th in the 800 (2:23.88).

Adrian Madison senior Trenton Fetter finished seventh in the boys 1,600 at 4:27.42 to earn all-state honors, later placing 25th in the 3,200 (10:13.09).

Blissfield sophomore Michael Weidmayer earned all-state in the 3,200, finishing seventh in 9:40.93.

Adrian Madison junior Isaiah Tiede placed eighth in the 110 hurdles finals in 15.07 to secure all-state honors. Teammate Nathan Mullins narrowly missed the podium in ninth at 15.08, after both ran 14.97 in prelims.

Boys Results

Several Lenawee County athletes competed across events with notable performances.

In sprints, Adrian Madison junior Wade Garza placed 23rd in the 100 prelims (11.21), while teammate De’Lante Garrison took 11th in the 200 prelims with a personal-best 22.39.

In distance events, Blissfield sophomore Noah Sills placed 24th in the 3200 (10:10.29).

In hurdles, Blissfield senior Braedyn Tennant ran 15.60 in the 110 prelims, while teammate Skyler Kimple placed ninth in the 300 hurdles with a personal-best 40.30.

Adrian Madison’s 4x100 team of Garrison, Tillman, Krys Ramirez and Garza placed 13th in 44.17.

Blissfield’s 4x200 team of Iain Gilmore, Kimple, Tennant and Durant Smith finished 24th in 1:34.74. Blissfield’s 4x400 team of Kimple, Brady Bills, Gilmore and Tennant placed 15th in 3:32.13.

Onsted’s Carson Garrison placed 15th in the shot put at 48 feet, 11.5 inches. Sand Creek’s Brayden Ruff took 30th in the shot put (42-6.5). In discus, Blissfield’s Nolan Wilson placed 14th at 137-4, Ruff placed 20th at 129-2, and Garrison placed 21st at 128-10. Clinton’s Peter Baker and Adrian Madison’s De’Lante Garrison each cleared 5-11 in the high jump.

Girls Results

Adrian Madison’s 4x100 team of Vivienne McGormley, Olivia Garcia, Morgan Bennice-Carol Byles and Jazzmin Walker placed 20th in 52.23. Adrian Madison’s 4x400 relay of Emma Myers, Avery Stover, Taelee LaVassaur and Garcia placed 27th in 4:27.06.

Blissfield’s 4x800 relay team of Hailey Sills, Kaleea Braun, Anna Hallett and Miller just missed all-state, finishing ninth in 10:06.81.

In hurdles and sprints, Adrian Madison’s Taryn Carrico ran 16.57 in the 100 hurdles prelims, while Garcia placed 15th in the 300 hurdles at 48.95. In distance events, Anna Hallett placed 12th in the 3,200 (12:01.52), while Hailey Sills took 16th (12:26.02).

Sand Creek’s Erin Alexander placed fourth in the pole vault at 10-3. Blissfield’s De’Mya Gibbons (24th, 98-3) and AnnMarie Scharer (26th, 97-7), along with Onsted’s Izzy Cunningham (27th, 94-5), competed in the discus.
