Dr. Jagdish Chandra, Director General, Railway Health Services (DGRHS), inaugurated the newly established Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) and Advanced Medical Equipment at Bharatratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Memorial Hospital (Dr. B.A.M. Hospital), Byculla, during his official visit to Central Railway’s premier tertiary-care hospital on June 7, 2026.

The Dragger anaesthesia machine costing Rs 54 lakhs and Ultrasound machine costing Rs 54 lakhs were also inaugurated in addition to the 18 bedded State of the Art SICU along with High end Advanced Orthopaedic table costing Rs 1.3 Crore. The newly established SICU will significantly strengthen the hospital’s capability to manage critically ill surgical patients through advanced monitoring systems and comprehensive intensive-care support.
Dr. Jagdish Chandra also inspected various facilities at the Hospital including Radiology / CT scan centre, Physiotherapy, Casualty, ICUs, Dialysis centre etc. and also reviewed the hospital’s clinical services and ongoing initiatives aimed at enhancing healthcare delivery for railway beneficiaries. A Hospital e-Magazine showcasing the facilities, achievements, and services available at Bharatratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Memorial Hospital, Byculla was also unveiled by the DGRHS.

Hospital; Senior Officials of Central Railway and Members of the medical fraternity were present during the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Jagdish Chandra commended Central Railway for its continuous efforts towards modernising healthcare infrastructure and adopting advanced medical technologies for the benefit of railway beneficiaries. He appreciated the hospital administration and healthcare teams for their dedication and commitment to providing quality, patient-centric healthcare services. In recognition of the hospital’s commendable performance and sustained efforts towards providing quality healthcare services, he also announced a cash award of ₹50,000 for Dr. B.A.M. Hospital and appreciated the dedication and hard work of the hospital administration, doctors, nursing staff, and other healthcare personnel.
Addressing the gathering, Rajeev Shrivastava, General Manager, Central Railway emphasized the importance of further strengthening patient feedback mechanisms and improving responsiveness to patient concerns in order to enhance patient satisfaction and service quality. He also expressed satisfaction with the overall functioning of the Hospital.
The inauguration marks another significant milestone in strengthening healthcare services at Dr. B.A.M. Hospital and reflects Central Railway’s commitment to delivering advanced, accessible, and technology-driven medical care to the railway community.
