Green Bay Packers: Christian Watson $110.5 million contract details reveal incredible bargain
· Yahoo Sports
Last week, the Green Bay Packers signed wide receiver Christian Watson to a four-year $110.5 million contract extension. This move came weeks after they also extended Jayden Reed with a three-year $50.25 million deal. Now, they have their top two wide receivers, along with Matthew Golden, locked up for the foreseeable future.

As might have been expected, there were several critics of Watson’s new contract. These critiques, though, are unfounded because the Packers are not paying the 2022 second round pick for what he has done, but rather what he will do.
What is more, the contract details that were just made public reveal that this contract is a very low risk for Green Bay.

As mentioned, Watson’s contract was first reported to be worth $110.5 million. Of that, $31 million is counted as a signing bonus. Fans who follow the Packers and the way they do business will know that the only guaranteed money in the contracts Green Bay hands out is the signing bonus.
Therefore, only $31 million of that $110.5 million is guaranteed. Additionally, the only way Watson can earn every cent of that $110.5 million is if he hits every escalator and incentive:
Numbers on Christian Watson’s four-year contract extension:
It’s actually a $92.5 million extension. There are escalators that could bring it closer to the $110.5 million that was initially reported.

As can be seen above, the deal is actually worth $92.5 million. The rest of the money is tied into per game bonuses and other incentives.
Additionally, Watson has a base salary of just $1.5 million in 2027 and 2028. The first time that it would be worth moving on from him would be in 2029, the second-to-last year of the contract, which is when the Packers would likely restructure him anyway.
In just 10 games last season, Watson was second on the team in targets while hauling in 35 receptions for 611 yards and six touchdowns. His six touchdowns tied for the team lead.
This level of production proved that he is not at all limited by the torn ACL he suffered at the end of 2024, and that the soft tissue injures that plagued him in 2022 and 2023 are a thing of the past.
All this to say that, if he can avoid serious injury, the Packers got a real steal with this contract.
