Dawn Staley Celebrates Return Of “Camp Season” With Special Throwback Gear

Dawn Staley on Monday boasted on Instagram about the new jerseys for this summer’s edition of her summer training camp. The Dawn Staley Basketball Academy at the University of South Carolina has been held every year since 2009.

The jerseys promoting the 2026 edition of the training camp feature Staley during her WNBA career years, and include the following text:
“Run-it-back”
In the caption, she included the following text:
“Camp season 2026 edition underway. Camp ts 🔥🫣🥰 if I do say so myself!!,”
The post also included several pictures of kids and teenagers, both male and female, practicing in the opening days of the camp.
Dawn Staley on the key to ensuring the return of her full roster to the 2026-27 season
Dawn Staley has managed something almost unheard of during the era of NIL and the transfer portal. The team didn’t lose any players to the transfer portal this offseason. While the school lost several important players to the WNBA and graduation this spring, Staley will have mostly the same unit of players in 2026-27.
In a story in The State, the newspaper in Columbia, South Carolina, last week, Dawn Staley stated her belief that the achievement is down to making players and parents feel part of the culture at Columbia:
“I think culturally speaking, our kids are happy,” Staley told The State. “Their parents are happy. When you’re in a situation where maybe everything isn’t 100% as you visualized, but when you’re genuinely happy, and when you have a voice, and when you have a path to success, it makes it a little bit easy to stay where you know what’s happening versus trying to go somewhere else and figure things out.”
The Gamecocks have been hugely successful under Staley, winning three national titles. They have been particularly successful since the 2020-21 season, making the Final Four every year.
They won the national title in 2022 and 2024, and have made the national title game in the last two editions of the NCAA Tournament. This level of success has led to an unprecedented interest by the Dallas Mavericks, who consider her a serious candidate to fill their current vacancy.
