According to a press release issued by Chief Public Relations Officer, Western Railway, Shri Vineet Abhishek, to mark the occasion, a plantation drive was organized under the leadership of the
Shri Pankaj Singh, Divisional Railway Manager, Mumbai Central, Senior Railway Officers and Railway Employees. A total of 60 saplings were planted across the Division to enhance green cover, promote biodiversity and contribute towards carbon sequestration.
A major highlight of the campaign was the transformation of an unused area near the Coach Care Center at Mumbai Central. The site, which previously housed the old Solid Waste Management (SWM) plant, was converted into a landscaped garden demonstrating effective utilization of available space while contributing to urban greening. An exhibition organized at the DRM Office showcased various environmental initiatives undertaken across the Division during the World Environment Day campaign, along with creative artworks and prize-winning entries from a Drawing Competition, reflecting the environmental awareness and creativity of railway employees and their family members. Special displays at Mumbai Central Station highlighted the Division's achievements in resource conservation, showcasing water conservation initiatives and presenting energy conservation measures, underscoring Western Railway's commitment to sustainable operations. Furthering the environmental awareness drive, cotton bags were distributed to passengers under the “Say No to Plastic” campaign, encouraging the use of eco-friendly alternatives to single-use plastics and promoting responsible consumption among commuters.
Through these activities, Mumbai Central Division successfully spread awareness on climate change, environmental protection, resource conservation and sustainable lifestyles. The enthusiastic participation of railway officers, staff and passengers reflected the Division's continued dedication towards building a greener, cleaner and more sustainable future.
