According to a report from Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich’s negotiations for Kennet Eichhorn were formally killed off when the player’s camp asked for a signing bonus.

From a sporting perspective, everyone at Bayern would like to sign Kennet Eichhorn. But when it comes to the signing fee, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Uli Hoeneß vetoed the move and said: ‘no, we won’t do it’ – Liverpool are in pole position to sign Eichhorn at the moment [@Plettigoal]

While this information could have been likely ascertained from other reports, Plettenberg specifically named Rummenigge and Hoeneß as the drivers behind the decision. Rummenigge and Hoeneß have come under fire from some fans because of their perceived lack of flexibility to evolving with the financial world of today’s game.

Bayern Munich’s exit from the race has opened the door for Liverpool FC to secure a deal for Eichhorn, with Borussia Dortmund as a contender as well.

Anyway, somebody meme this up:

OMG, they killed Kennet…Eichhorn’s deal!
