After shooting 2 under on the first day, finishing three strokes behind a four-way tie for first place at Muirfield Village Golf Club, Poston posted a blistering 7 under in the second round to move into sole position atop the leaderboard with two rounds to play.
Poston birdied six of the first nine holes, bogeyed one and added two more birdies on 13 and 17 to hit the midpoint of the tournament at 9 under.
Here are three things to know about J.T. Poston, whose full name is James Tyree Poston.
He's got two nicknames
Poston goes by "The Postman," and at one point, his Twitter profile said he was "open on Sundays" even when the postal service is not. But according to a 2019 interview with TriadGolf.com, his teammates at Western Carolina also had a nickname for him.
They called him "Jimbo."
He's a Carolina boy
Born in Hickory, North Carolina, Poston was not recruited by the major colleges of the region despite an impressive career as a youngster. His one-round, 18-hole score of 63 was the lowest ever shot in the North Carolina state championship, earning him a mention in the "Faces In The Crowd" section of Sports Illustrated.
He played collegiately at Western Carolina and lists the North Carolina Tar Heels, Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Braves as his favorite teams.
J.T. Poston has three career wins
If he's able to hold off the remainder of the field for two more days, this would mark the fourth PGA Tour win for the 33-year-old Poston, who turned professional in 2015.

Poston won the Wyndham Championship in 2019, the John Deere Classic in 2022 and the Shriners Children’s Open in 2024. He entered the tournament ranked 114th in the FedExCup rankings, which put him outside the realm of guaranteed PGA Tour status.
He has earned more than $23 million in his career.
