Victor led 6-1 after the first two quarters, then quickly extended the lead to 7-1 after the break.
Pittsford came alive in the third, responding with four-straight goals. With just over 10 minutes left in the game, the Panthers closed the gap to 7-5.
Victor’s Gianna Hedden answered with a goal for the Blue Devils to pull them back out front with an 8-5 lead.
Pittsford again had an answer. The Panthers came storming back, and with just under 40 seconds to play, Grace Scott netted the tying goal to send the game to overtime.
After a scoreless first overtime, the game went to double OT.
That’s when Meaghan O’Brien became the hero.
The sophomore got the ball out of bounds and powered to the net for the game-winner.
“Going into second overtime, our teammate Allie Pisano, she’s been out all season due to an ACL, she came up to me and our attack and was like, ‘You guys have to have it. You can’t back down now. We’re two overtimes in.’ And it just happened,” O’Brien said. “They trust in me, and we trust in each other, and we got the job done. ‘Strive for five’ was our team goal this year, so we continue the dynasty, and now we got bigger things ahead of us.”
O’Brien’s game-winning goal was her lone score of the contest.
Hedden led the way with three goals for the Blue Devils. Carlina DiFondi had two, and McKenna Anderson, Mia DeRose and Lila Kubrich each had one.
Mia Finocchario earned the win in the net.
Victor (15-4) will face Section VI’s Lancaster in the Far West Regional on Thursday, June 4. Pittsford ends its season 17-2.
