Barcelona’s long-standing admiration for Erling Haaland has once again come into the spotlight following fresh comments from former analyst Carles Planchart.

He has revealed that concrete discussions once took place regarding the possibility of bringing the Norwegian superstar to Camp Nou.
Speaking on SPORT, Planchart, who previously worked alongside Pep Guardiola and was also involved in Victor Font’s presidential campaign, shed light on the conversations that took place behind the scenes.
Barcelona explored Haaland during election
Planchart explained that Barcelona’s interest in Haaland went beyond simple scouting reports or market monitoring.
According to him, discussions were held directly with the player’s representatives in an attempt to position the Catalan club favourably for the future.

“There was a meeting with Haaland in March. The aim was to ensure that Haaland wanted to leave City and that coming to Barça was his priority.
“He would fit in very well. It was a done deal. Barça has no interest now in having this priority.
“At the time, it served as an electoral counterweight. If we have to wait, we’ll wait. The players are under contract,” he admitted.
Planchart also revealed his opinion that the striker remains attracted to the possibility of playing in Spain one day.
“I can see Haaland at Barça. Because of his age, his future, his goalscoring ability, his style of play… he’s a killer in the box.
“I’m convinced he’d like to come to Spain. He has a house in Marbella.”
Barcelona over Real Madrid

While a move is not currently being discussed, Haaland’s profile is easy to understand.
This is because Barcelona continue to value forwards capable of dominating inside the penalty area, and the Norwegian’s goalscoring record speaks for itself.
At the same time, Planchart also questioned whether Real Madrid would be the ideal destination for the striker at this stage of his career.
“He knows he can’t go to Madrid while Mbappe is there. It would be a mistake, just another player in the squad.
“And especially given the current situation in Madrid. He places great importance on the style of play. It’s not the best option for him,” he concluded.
