The brass at La Liga giants RCD Mallorca could move to take advantage of the surprise relegation of RCD Mallorca to the 2nd tier of Spanish football.

This comes amid the understanding that the Blaugrana are keeping a close eye on the situation of Jan Virgili.

Youngster Virgili for his part only departed Catalunya’s capital last summer, linking up with Mallorca on a permanent basis amid a search for more consistent senior playing time.

And the attacker went on to find precisely as much at Son Moix.

All told, Virgili was afforded 31 La Liga appearances, establishing himself as one of the standout young players in Spain en route to a haul of two goals and six assists.

And as alluded to above, such exploits did not go unnoticed on the part of those in the boardroom at his former employers.

As per a report from Diario Sport, after Mallorca were condemned to the drop, Barcelona have been alerted to a potential market opportunity:

With Virgili’s release clause having been slashed from €30 million to just €12 million:

‘By having 40% of a future sale and a right of first refusal, Barça could acquire him for an amount close to seven million.’

On the lookout for reinforcements in the attacking third, the Blaugrana could in turn move to bring the gifted young winger back to the Camp Nou for next season.
