Clark heads into the final round of the PGA Tour event in a tie for second on 19-under, two shots off the lead.

He is joined on that score by world number one Scottie Scheffler, with the American duo in pursuit of leader Si Woo Kim on 21-under.

It is set to be a dramatic finale at TPC Craig Ranch, which underwent a $25million overhaul in 2025, which Clark has now discussed.

When asked for his overall impression of the course, Clark said after his third round: “I initially thought when we were playing the practice round it was going to make the course tougher.

“Clearly it hasn’t.

“In defense of the new design, it’s been really wet and no wind.

“Regardless of what you do, we’re so good now, we’re going to make a lot of birdies.

“Yeah, I think it’s good because before the greens were pretty flat and didn’t have much to them, and now there’s a lot of slope and undulation, and you have to have pinpoint accuracy.

“All in all, I like it.

“You have to think a lot more and be precise, which I think is great to have on the PGA Tour of course.”

The American has thus far carded rounds of 66, 63 and 65, having posted one eagle, 19 birdies, 32 pars and two bogeys from his 54 holes.

What has changed at TPC Craig Ranch for the CJ Cup Byron Nelson?

Clark is currently chasing his first PGA Tour win of the 2026 season at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, and the fourth of his career.

His last success arrived at the 2024 AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, while he won both the US Open and the Wells Fargo Championship the previous year.

He now faces a tricky test against Scheffler and Kim as he looks to end his drought at TPC Craig Ranch, which is playing at 7,385 yards.

Led by World Golf Hall of Fame member Lanny Wadkins, the par-71 course recently underwent its first major redesign since opening in 2004.

Lengthened holes, new grass turf, recontoured greens and strategic bunker repositioning are among the many notable changes to the Texas course.

The renovation arrived shortly after Scheffler set a 72-hole record of 253 to claim the title in 2025, when he won by eight strokes on 31-under.
