Tennessee baseball wins series opener at Oklahoma

Tennessee (36-18, 14-14 SEC) opened its final Southeastern Conference baseball series during the regular season on Thursday at Oklahoma (31-19, 13-15 SEC).

Tennessee defeated the Sooners, 9-7, at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, home to the Dodgers' Triple-A affiliate Oklahoma City Comets.

Tegan Kuhns (5-4) started for Tennessee and pitched five innings. He recorded five strikeouts and 108 pitches, including 72 strikes, against 26 batters. Kuhns allowed 12 hits, five runs (four earned) and two walks.

Cam Appenzeller pitched 2.2 innings in relief, recording two strikeouts and 42 pitches (33 strikes) against 12 batters. Bo Rhudy also pitched 1.1 innings in relief. He totaled three strikeouts and earned his third save of the season.

Tennessee's offense produced seven hits in the series opener. Levi Clark and Henry Ford hit one home run each for the Vols. The Sooners recorded 17 hits and three home runs.

Game 2 on Friday will also take place at 7:30 p.m. EDT. Oklahoma leads the all-time baseball series versus Tennessee, 3-2.
