Man United’s Marcus Rashford decision becomes clear as negotiations reopen

Manchester United and Barcelona are set to reopen negotiations next week on Marcus Rashford’s future in the hope of constructing a deal.

There is an agreement in place for Barcelona to buy the forward for €30m but it is understood the Catalan club want to revisit terms due to a restricted budget.

Rashford is keen to stay at Camp Nou after a successful season that has brought a league title, but there is the possibility he returns to United in July.

The Old Trafford hierarchy would prefer to make a sale as they look to rebuild the squad elsewhere - especially in midfield - but another loan deal is a possibility.

Bayern Munich are also understood to be monitoring the situation. Mikel Arteta, meanwhile, likes Rashford as a player. Arsenal have a list of potential left forward targets - a main priority for the summer.

Any deal, though, would depend on opportunity. The complexities of the situation mean that negotiations could go on some time - potentially to late in the window.

Ruben Amorim had previously been seen as a primary obstacle to Rashford’s future at Old Trafford given how he didn’t use him, but The Independent has been told the former manager was empowered in that by the club.

There are other figures in the hierarchy who feel it is time to move on, a stance justified by his release of form in Spain this season.

Rashford’s own preference is to stay at Barcelona or at least go to a club competitive at Champions League level. A return to Aston Villa is currently not seen as an option.
