The New York Mets have made a lot of questionable decisions over the past few years by handing out some of the most expensive contracts we've ever seen in Major League Baseball history.
Bo Bichette got himself a nice payday. He now finds himself in a position that nobody expected him to be in just a year ago, currently with the Mets on a three-year deal that includes player opt-outs after 2027 and 2028.
The Mets made the questionable decision of giving him player options, and now could find themselves in a tough position to trade him.
For that reason and others, Bichette has now been viewed as one of the worst contracts in Major League Baseball.
“The New York Mets are a mess, and Bo Bichette is one of the biggest reasons why. Assuming things continue to go south, the Mets would presumably love to trade him to ensure they could get some level of return and, perhaps most importantly, not risk Bichette opting into the remaining two years and $84 million in his deal, but I'm not sure how realistic that is,” Zachary Rotman of FanSided wrote.
Only 28 years old and leading the league in hits twice throughout his career, it's a bit difficult to say that Bichette isn't tradeable.
However, Rotman's points are definitely fair here, as there's really no reason for a team to take a chance on Bichette if they don't think he can figure it out offensively. We already know all of the questions about his defensive problems, and, considering he gets to control his future with player options, there really aren't many benefits to trading for him right now.
