MK Stalin says DMK will let Vijay’s TVK form Tamil Nadu government: Report

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam chief MK Stalin told The Times of India that his party will wait for actor-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam to form the government in Tamil Nadu.

The DMK will “watch without disturbing for six months”, Stalin told the newspaper on Wednesday.

The comments came amid reports that the DMK and its rival All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam were holding talks to explore the possibility of forming a coalition government.

On Monday, the TVK, on its electoral debut, emerged as the single-largest party in the Tamil Nadu elections, winning 108 seats. However, it fell short of the majority mark of 118 seats in the 234-member Assembly and requires the support of other parties to form the government.

Earlier on Wednesday, hours after the Congress declared its support to the TVK, Vijay met Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Arlekar to stake claim to form the government.

As the Congress has five seats, the alliance is still short of the majority mark by five seats.

The governor asked Vijay to provide proof of him having secured a majority, according to reports.

The TVK is in talks with the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, the Communist Party of India and Communist Party of India (Marxist), according to reports. They had won two seats each.
