NFR Records a Consistent Freight Performance During the Inception of FY 2026-27 with 1135 Rakes Unloaded in April

Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) continued its strong freight performance in April 2026, recording a notable mark in unloading activity. During the month, 1135 freight rakes were unloaded across the zone, marking a steady inception for the zone during the FY 2026-27.

Throughout the month, NFR ensured smooth transportation of essential and industrial commodities including food grains, food grade items, fertilizers, sugar, SNTP-coal, salt, tank and other goods. These consignments were efficiently handled at various goods sheds across its jurisdiction, ensuring timely supply and operational reliability.

A major share of freight movement during the period was dedicated to meeting the requirements of the Northeastern states. Assam accounted for the unloading of 593 rakes, of which 317 rakes carried essential commodities, underlining the Railways’ crucial role in supporting public distribution systems and daily consumer needs. During the same period, 99 rakes were unloaded in Tripura, 32 in Nagaland, 20 in Arunachal Pradesh, 14 in Manipur and 8 in Mizoram.

Additionally, within the jurisdiction of NFR, West Bengal recorded the unloading of 203 rakes, while Bihar accounted for 166 rakes, comprising both essential and non-essential commodities, further strengthening inter regional supply chains.

The movement of essential commodities and industrial goods remains crucial for meeting public needs and supporting economic activities across the region. Through close monitoring and coordinated efforts by field units, NFR has improved turnaround time and unloading efficiency, reaffirming its commitment to reliable freight operations and the socio-economic development of the Northeast.
