In addition to owning the series win, the Mariners were also able to pull off the sweep in the three-game series, winning the trio of contests by a combined four runs.

Seattle improved its overall record to 13-14 on the year and will have a chance to get back to or over .500 with a series win against the Minnesota Twins, which begins at 4:40 p.m. PT on Monday at Target Field in Minneapolis.

In addition to earning the series win against St. Louis, it also marked another impressive showing for left-handed Mariners reliever Jose A. Ferrer.

Ferrer was originally acquired by the Mariners in a trade with the Washington Nationals this offseason that sent top 100 pitching prospect Harry Ford to the nation's capitol in return.

When Ferrer was acquired, it was expected he would provide Seattle an alternative left-handed arm out of the bullpen aside from Gabe Speier.

Ferrer began the year having allowed four runs (three earned) through his first 10 contests.

Since his last earned run allowed in a game against the Texas Rangers on April 17, Ferrer hasn't allowed a run in five outings.

Starting pitcher Logan Gilbert was pulled early after four innings of work against the Athletics on April 22. Ferrer came in and pitched two scoreless innings, for which he earned the praise of Mariners manager Dan Wilson.

Jose A. Ferrer Has Adapted to High-Leverage Role With Seattle MarinersAfter some rough waters in the beginning of the season, the Mariners' offseason trade acquisition has started to look steady.

Fellow starter Bryan Woo was also pulled after just three innings in game two of the three-game set against the Cardinals on Saturday. Once again, Ferrer was tasked with long coverage following the early pull and spun two scoreless frames.

On Sunday, with a one-run lead, Ferrer entered the game in the bottom of the ninth to try and earn the save. It was just his second save opportunity of the season.

Ferrer didn't issue a walk or allow a hit and retired the side in order to earn his first save with Seattle.

For the season, Ferrer now has a 1.93 ERA with 10 strikeouts in 14 innings pitched across 15 appearances.

Last season, right-handed reliever Eduard Bazardo was used in a similar way of being able to cover a down arm in low leverage, pitch multiple innings and throw in high-leverage situations.

It seems that Ferrer is being used in a similar way this season and based on his recent performances, he's beginning to acclimate to that role.
