There have been doubts over the future of Fernandez since Chelsea’s Champions League exit to PSG, and he’s been linked with both Real Madrid and PSG.

The 25-year-old was suspended for two games by then head coach Liam Rosenior for comments made about his future during the March international break.

Fernandez has been in negotiations over a new contract since December, but there’s been no agreement over improved wages.

His agent Javier Pastore has stated negotiations will resume after the World Cup, and if an agreement still can’t be reached, they’ll explore their options.

Despite Madrid being his preferred destination it was reported on Thursday Fernandez has emerged as a target for City, and Romano has provided an update.

“Enzo Fernandez and Chelsea have been talking since December, but the problem is no agreement,” he told his YouTube channel.

“The real issue is no agreement over better wages. A few factors could influence him. Let’s see who will be the next Chelsea manager and Champions League football.

“Enzo Fernandez has been discussed internally at Manchester City, but they have different other top targets like Anderson, and Tonali is appreciated.

“They made checks on Enzo before. No negotiations; if they miss out on other targets, they might look at him as an opportunity.”
