TJ tennis adds 2 wins, improves to 7-2

Thomas Jefferson Independent Day School traveled to Clever High School for a regular season boys tennis contest Tuesday. The Cavaliers rolled to a 9-0 sweep of the Bluejays.

Sam Goodhue started things with an 8-0 sweep of Clever's Austin Ginter in No. 1 singles. Goodhue paired with Ryker Faaborg in No. 1 doubles to claim an 8-1 win over Ginter and Austin Paasch as well.
The closest the Bluejays came to earning a win was in No. 6 singles when Noah Thornton drove the Cavs' Saad Rabbi to an 8-6 final that saw Rabbi narrowly escape defeat.
In doubles, Rabbi paired with Phillip Mitchell and eliminated Jordan Markanjevic and Ethan Kenly 8-4.
Other TJ individuals to earn sweeps were Yousuf Mokhtar over Paasch in No. 3 singles, Faaborg over Markanjevic at No 4, and Mitchell over Tyler Rankey at No. 5.
TJ fell 7-2 to Central High School (Springfield) Monday. Last week, the Cavaliers earned a 6-3 win over Carl Junction High School. The Bulldogs are 9-8 on the season.
In that match last week, Goodhue defeated CJ's Hayden Wilkerson 8-1 in top singles play. Kai Faaborg took down Elliott Parker 8-2 in No. 2 singles.
CJ's wins came in Nos. 5 and 6 singles as Eduardo Salema topped Mitchell 8-4 and Jacoby Bailey beat Rabbi 8-3. The Bulldogs also won No. 3 doubles as Sayre Sundy and Salema topped Mitchell and Rabbi 9-8 in a tiebreaker. The Bulldogs won the tiebreaker 10-8.
