Bulldogs roar late; Poland gets by Springfield

NEW MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Poland pulled away from Springfield to turn a tight contest by exploding for six runs in the sixth inning to distance itself from the home-standing Tigers in a 9-3 win.

The offensive fireworks were headlined by a relentless attack – Joe Zuccaro went 4-for-5 with two doubles, while Carmine Tukalo put on a power display with two doubles and a triple of his own.

Kelly Memo and Zack Marantis chipped in two hits apiece to round out the Bulldogs’ 14-hit barrage.

On the mound, Grady Pitzulo silenced the Tigers’ bats, notching 11 strikeouts over six innings of work.

Springfield’s Greyson Seifert provided a spark for the home team with two hits, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Poland’s late-inning surge.

Now sitting at 6-3, the Bulldogs will welcome Salem this Saturday. Springfield will host Mineral Ridge on Monday.
