With ball control and steady passing, the Hornets were able to pull away, winning 13-5 over Franklin Academy in the team’s home opener.
“We had a great home opener due to how cohesive the team was,” PHS senior captain Lilly Forrence said. “From the number of assists to how efficiently the ball was worked up the field (on a defensive stop), it all contributed to our win.”
Forrence was electric on the night with five goals and three assists. Her teammate Avery Berman added four goals with three assists.
In fact, five different Plattsburgh players recorded an assist, including Marin Juneau with three and Charlotte Bezio and Caleigh Latour having one each.
It was an extra special day for Bezio and Juli Podd. Both players scored their first varsity goal on the day.
Fiana Conners and Alexis Thornton teamed up to stop 19 Franklin Academy shots, with Conners getting 13.
Despite the loss, it was a special day for the Huskies, as well. Three sisters — Eleanor, Livia and Clara Parsons — scored all the goals for Franklin Academy. It also was Clara’s first varsity goal.
“Tonight was a total team effort, and it’s always nice to get the first win under your belt,” PHS head coach Shannon Brown said. “Lily Forrence and Avery Berman led the way for us on offense, with Berman playing an exceptional two-way game. Marin Juneau dominated midfield play, complementing our defense, anchored by Ocean Hardy and Natalee Dubray. We hope to use this as a building block for continued growth as our season continues”
