Officers arrived at approximately 15:59 to find a blue Toyota Corolla Quest overturned several times.

Authorities say the boy was driving eastbound when he lost control on a bend.

The vehicle veered onto the verge and rolled several times. It finally came to rest upright in the opposite lane, facing west.

Father Allegedly Under Influence

Investigators found that the boy’s father, a passenger in the vehicle, was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and had allowed the minor to drive.

Paramedics confirmed that the boy was ejected from the vehicle, suffered fatal injuries, and died at the scene.

Police took the father into custody for further investigation.

Drunk-Driving Arrests Spike Over Easter Weekend

Meanwhile, the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) arrested 121 motorists for drunk driving during the first two days of intensified Easter weekend road safety operations.

JMPD spokesperson Superintendent Xolani Fihla said the figures 39 arrests on Thursday and 82 on Good Friday reflect a worrying level of driver ignorance and disregard for road rules and public safety.

“These numbers show there is still a lot of ignorance when it comes to driver behaviour,” Fihla said.

Authorities urged motorists to plan ahead, designate a sober driver, and use public transport where possible.
