A third Kentucky Wildcat is entering the transfer portal

· Yahoo Sports

The Kentucky Wildcats received a double shot of transfer portal news on Friday. First guard Jasper Johnson announced that he would seek a fresh start after just one season in Lexington. Now, center Brandon Garrison announced his intention to leave as well.

Garrison joined the Wildcats just after Mark Pope took over as the coach, transferring in from Oklahoma State. He was a former top 50 recruit who averaged 7.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. Unfortunately, the move to Kentucky didn't work out like he hoped.

In his first season at Kentucky, Garrison played 17 minutes per game, mostly as a backup. He had some terrific moments, but his numbers were down across the board. Many expected a step up this season, but his minutes went down again, and he averaged just 4.7 points per game once again as a backup. His inconsistent play kept him behind freshman Malachi Moreno, even with Jayden Quaintance unable to play.

Garrison has talent, and at times, was a difference maker. His blocked shots in overtime against Santa Clara will always be fondly remembered. Unfortunately, those moments weren't common enough, and Pope didn't seem to trust him at times. He has one more year of eligibility remaining. We wish him the best at wherever he winds up.
