Stuck With Your Embarrassing Old Gmail ID? Here's How To Finally Change It

· Free Press Journal

If your Gmail address still carries the cringe weight of a teenage personality, think [email protected] or [email protected], Google has some good news for you. The company is rolling out a feature that allows users to change their Gmail address while keeping their old one intact as an alternate, meaning no data is lost and no contacts are left behind.

Google confirmed the feature on its support page, noting that once a new address is set, users can sign in with either the old or the new one, and continue receiving emails on both.

Who all are getting this new feature?

The feature is currently rolling out gradually to users in the US and may not be available to everyone just yet. Users in India will need to wait a little longer as the rollout expands globally. Eligibility can be checked directly from Google Account settings.

How to change your Gmail account name

Follow the simple steps below:

1. Check if you're eligible: Head to myaccount.google.com/google-account-email and navigate to Personal Info, then Email, then Google Account Email. If the option that reads 'Change Google Account Email' appears, you are eligible to proceed.

2. Back up your data first: Before making any changes, Google recommends backing up photos, contacts, and Android data as a precaution. Users who rely on a Chromebook or use 'Sign in with Google' for third-party apps should review those connections before switching, as the change may affect linked services.
