Dodgers Fall to Guardians in 1st Loss of 2026 Season

The Los Angeles Dodgers couldn’t get the bats going until late Monday night, falling 4-2 to the Cleveland Guardians in the first loss for the Boys in Blue this year.

The Dodgers (3-1) had nine hits but were not able to string together enough to bring a runner home until the bottom of the ninth inning.

The first run, scored by Kyle Tucker, was heavily assisted by Tucker’s run from first base to third on a wild pitch.

Mookie Betts then doubled to bring Tucker home, and Betts scored on a groundout by Freddie Freeman.

The Guardians (3-2), meanwhile, were able to knock home their own runners and also got some help from Justin Wrobleski, who walked in a run with two outs, then gave up a two-RBI double in the top of the seventh inning.

Prior to that, the Guardians’ only score came on an RBI double in the top of the third inning off of Roki Sasaki, who came in facing serious questions about his performance but pitched solidly in his four-plus innings.

Sasaki allowed four hits, including a single when facing one last batter in the top of the fifth inning, and struck out four while walking two batters.

Reliever Tanner Scott didn’t allow that last baserunner to make it home.

Of Sasaki’s 78 pitches, 45 were strikes, including nine whiffs. That total figure was a little below the 90-pitch limit imposed by manager Dave Roberts.

What Happened With Justin Wrobleski?

Wrobleski pitched four innings and gave up three runs, all of them earned. He had two strikeouts and walked one batter while allowing four hits.

He nearly avoided allowing the runs, though, even as the bases were loaded.

He faced Rhys Hoskins and had him on an 0-2 count with two outs before throwing four straight balls, walking a run in. The two-RBI double by Daniel Schneemann followed soon after.
