The New York Jets, in Aaron Glenn's second year as head coach, will be expected to show some sort of improvement after the debacle last season.

Granted, improving on a three-win season is a low bar, but the Jets simply have to start showing something productive soon, and in 2026, they will look to a veteran quarterback in Geno Smith to be the shining light.

But some weren't sure whether the Jets had signed Geno as the starter, with Bailey Zappe and Brady Cook also on the roster.

However, if you thought there was going to be a quarterback competition in the offseason, Glenn just squashed that idea.

"No doubt about it," Glenn said via NFL.com. "He's our guy."

Geno a Jets stop-gap?

Well, you would think so, right?

Geno isn't likely to lead the Jets to a Super Bowl win, so the general thought is that he will play a key role in keeping the franchise afloat, while also allowing them freedom to attack the position in the draft next year, where there are a handful of potential options.

Justin Fields was viewed in the same manner last offseason, and now he is with the Kansas City Chiefs, so Geno likely won't be the long-term option for the Jets.

It will be tough sledding in 2026 for New York as the franchise tries to climb out of the NFL doldrums, and in Smith, they have a veteran quarterback who has seen it all before, so nothing will faze him.

It's a one-year rental until the Jets can find who they think can finally be their franchise guy.
