The emotion quickly poured out as soon as the final putt dropped.
Gary Woodland won the 2026 Texas Children's Houston Open on Sunday, perhaps the story of the year on the PGA Tour. Woodland revealed not even three weeks ago he has dealt with PTSD since undergoing brain surgery in September 2023, but that admission lifted pressure off Woodland, who capitalized with his fifth PGA Tour win on Sunday.

Speaking with NBC' Cara Banks on the green after his victory, Woodland gave an impassioned speech while fighting through the tears.

"I'll tell you what, we play an individual sport out here, but I wasn't alone today," Woodland said. "I got a lot of people behind me, my team, my family and this golf world. Anybody that's struggling with something, I hope they see me and don't give up, just keep fighting."
Woodland's story is likely to inspire many. He admitted his issues are far from over and there are plenty of bad days to go along with the good, but Sunday's win had to be pivotal for someone who has battled inner demons most of us will never experience.
And on Sunday, Woodland got a proper celebration fitting for a champion that has been through what he has.
"Today was a good day," Woodland said. "But I'm going to keep fighting. I've got a big fight ahead of me and I'm going to keep going, but I'm proud of myself right now."
