The New Orleans Saints are in a better spot than they were a year ago, but they’re still far away from where they need to be. The Saints hold the No. 8 pick and have a good chance to get better, but will need to be smart.
While Chris Olave is a star, when healthy, injuries in his career have been an issue for more than just the Ohio State standout. The Saints don’t have reliable options when he isn’t on the field, and that’s an issue.
Luke Easterling of Athlon Sports believes New Orleans will address that need with the No. 8 overall pick, projecting Ohio State star Carnell Tate to land with the Saints.
“Chris Olave is one of the better receivers in the league when healthy, but he’s struggled with injuries over the past two seasons, and the Saints don’t have much depth behind him after trading away Rashid Shaheed last year.
“Adding Tate would give New Orleans another complete pass-catcher with WR1 talent and potential, which would help ensure that Tyler Shough continues to develop into a quality starting quarterback,” he wrote.
The Rashid Shaheed point is very interesting and a smart way to look at this. While Shaheed had no place on the Saints due to how bad they were a year ago, New Orleans now finds itself in a position where it has to get better.
The only issue here is using a top-10 pick on a wide receiver when there are many other problems on the roster. However, Tate was a stud in college and could be worth it.
