What NDSU coach David Richman said about Michigan State after loss

· Yahoo Sports

After a great season winning both the Summit League's regular season and conference championships, North Dakota State's season ended in round one of the 2026 NCAA Tournament at the hands of Michigan State basketball and Hall of Fame coach Tom Izzo. On the Spartans' side, Tom Izzo was extremely complimentary of the Bisons' program in his postgame comments, saying he 'fell in love with them' on tape.

After the loss, North Dakota State head coach David Richman addressed the media and he was similarly complimentary to MSU, giving them credit and thanking the NCAA for the opportunity. You can see his full comments below:

  • On why they lost: "You know, there's a myriad of things... We played a really good ball club that's extremely well-coached. There are some size, some physicality, some athleticism things that we don't see on a regular basis, they're really hard to simulate. Shooting's one part of the game, it wasn't the part that cost us."
  • On MSU's physicality: "Yeah, it's different... It is. You can see it on tape. You can try to simulate it with our scout team and all those things, but it's different. This is a high-major program, and it showed. Their speed, their physicality, their length, it's a challenge."
  • "Michigan State was clearly the better basketball team today."
  • "The program I want to be defined by 'tough' and 'together', problem is we went again a program that has a lot of toughness and a lot of togetherness as well, but extremely proud of the fight from our group for playing the full 40 minutes."
