Roberts was a sports anchor in Nashville at the time, and from there, both of their careers took off. The two became friends over the years as Summitt went on to win seven more national titles and Roberts ascended to the top of the broadcasting industry.

Now, Roberts has produced the documentary to sum up all documentaries on Summitt's legendary life, she announced on "Good Morning America" on March 19.

The documentary, which is called "Breaking Glass: The Pat Summitt Story," will premiere on Hulu on March 25, and the documentary will also air on ESPN2 on March 29 and April 5 on ESPN.

"I'm honestly grateful to Robin Roberts for making this happen," Tyler Summitt told Knox News. "As I was growing up, Robin was like a family member, and there's nobody better to tell my mom's story than Robin Roberts. So I'm grateful to her for making this happen and her commitment to telling my mom's story."

Roberts' presence is still a constant in Tyler's life. She's one of a few of Summitt's friends who became another mother-like figure in Tyler's life after Summitt died in 2016.

"Robin sent gifts to our house when our kids were born. Our kids call her Aunt Robin," Tyler said. "It's so amazing that she's continued to be almost a mother figure here on earth for me. I'm grateful for the relationship with her, even though mom is gone, that she's still here, and we're so close, and she's just so committed to honoring my mom's legacy."

The documentary will be directed by award-winning filmmaker Dawn Porter, who directed and produced the Amazon documentary on the WNBA called "Power of the Dream" that released in 2024. Her work has appeared on ESPN, Netflix, HBO, PBS, and Discovery.

The trailer that aired on "Good Morning America" showed sit-down interviews with Tyler, Summitt's longtime assistant and successor Holly Warlick, longtime assistant Mickie DeMoss, Lady Vols legend Tamika Catchings, Tennessee football great Peyton Manning and tennis legend Billie Jean King.
