The Boston Red Sox are reportedly moving on from a former top prospect.
Boston released Fraymi De Leon on Thursday, according to Baseball Now's Andrew Parker. The infielder joined the Red Sox as an international free agent, receiving the largest bonus among their 2022 class at $1.2 million.
Parker later added that the Red Sox also released infielders Tyler Miller and Efren Teran, outfielders Yan Cruz and Jesus Lugo, and pitcher Noah Dean.
De Leon signed at age 17 as MLB.com's No. 50 international prospect. He's yet to find his professional footing, hitting .210/.310/.264 with five home runs in 254 games.
The 5-foot-10, 155-pounder didn't discover any offense in 2025, hitting .190 in 88 games across three minor-league levels. His walk rate also dipped to 6.8 percent, a stark decline from the prior season's 11.9.
De Leon ended the 2025 campaign by playing four games in Double-A Portland, the highest level he's reached. The right-hander went 2-for-15 with no walks, six strikeouts and two double plays.
Boston will part ways with De Leon, who divided his time at second base, third base and shortstop last season before turning 21 in late September.
Johanfran Garcia, a catcher who signed for $850,000 out of Venezuela, is the only 2022 international free agent ranked among MLB.com's top-30 Red Sox prospects (No. 28). However, 2023 signings Franklin Arias (No. 2) and Juan Valera (No. 5) enter the 2026 season among the organization's top minor leaguers.
