The 2026 March Madness teams are set and now college basketball fans are determining which schools have the best path to the Final Four.

That includes big-time conference champions like St. Johns, Purdue and Arkansas, who captured the Big East, Big Ten and SEC, respectively.

Meanwhile, college basketball fans are starting to fill out their many brackets before the NCAA Tournament’s Play-In Round on March 17. While upsets are always fun to select, serious brackets are looking for the schools that have the most upside in their regions.

Michigan Wolverines

The Wolverines may not have captured the Big Ten conference tournament title this season, but Michigan is set up for March Madness success. Michigan faces the easiest 8/9 matchup with Georgia or St. Louis awaiting in the Round of 32.

Meanwhile, Texas Tech and Alabama also sit in their region and both teams have major vulnerabilities. The Red Raiders are missing the top star J.T. Toppin, while the Crimson Tide have one of the worst defenses in the country.

Michigan’s first major test could likely come in the Elite Eight with a potential date against Iowa State. While the Cyclones boasted a tremendous regular season, their lack of NCAA Tournament success doesn’t bode well against an experienced Wolverines team.

Purdue Boilermakers

The Big Ten Tournament winners proved that they can hang with Michigan after an impressive regular season. However, Purdue has now been rewarded with the 2 seed in the West Region.

That gives the Boilermakers a relatively easy path to the Sweet Sixteen that could feature programs like BYU or Gonzaga. Meanwhile, a matchup with Arizona or Arkansas in the Elite Eight certainly gives off big-game energy, but Purdue’s big wins over Alabama, Michigan and Nebraska should give Matt Painter’s team confidence.

Connecticut Huskies

Dan Hurley’s team lost the Big East title game, but still received a huge boost from the NCAA Tournament committee. UConn might have a lot of major programs in the East Region, but the majority sit in the top half.

Duke, St. John’s and Kansas will all have to battle it out on the upper half of the bracket while UConn’s biggest test before the Elite Eight comes in the form of Michigan State.

The Huskies already have wins over Kansas, Florida, Illinois and St. John’s this season, and Hurley’s team is always prepared once March Madness begins.
