Seth Davis said Miami RedHawks got final NCAA tournament at-large bid, but they didn't

As the Miami RedHawks heard their name called on Selection Sunday, CBS college basketball analyst Seth Davis said Miami earned the final NCAA tournament at-large bid available.

Not true, explained NCAA tournament selection committee chairman Keith Gill, a short time later during the CBS broadcast.

Gill said North Carolina State, Texas and SMU all were ranked below the RedHawks by the committee.

Oklahoma was the top team listed among the "first four out."

The RedHawks are scheduled to face SMU in the First Four in Dayton, for the No. 11 seed. The winner would play No. 6 Tennessee in the first round in Philadelphia.

The 20th-ranked RedHawks did finish the regular season 31-0, but they lost to UMass in the opening round of the Mid-American Conference tournament. Akron defeated Toledo to earn the MAC's automatic bid.

The MAC hadn't received two bids in the same NCAA tournament since 1999, and no MAC team has played in the First Four in Dayton.
