There has been plenty of talk about Bo Bichette during the offseason and Spring Training, mainly about what he’ll look like at third base.
In Spring Training for the New York Mets, a former franchise star has shown some love to the former Toronto Blue Jay. Mets legend David Wright, who recently revealed he’s planning to spend some time helping one of the team’s newest players, loves what he saw from Bichette.
Wright admitted the request caught him a little off guard, but said he was more than happy to help when Bichette asked if they could talk.
“I was excited and surprised when Bo reached out and asked if I was coming down and if I had a few minutes for him,” Wright said, per Chuck King of MLB.com.
The former Mets captain added that he isn’t exactly sure what topics the two will end up discussing when they meet, but it sounds like this will just be about handling New York and getting better at third.
“So I'm not sure what direction that's going to go into, whether it's third base or about New York, or whatever the question set is,” Wright said. “But I'm excited to meet and spend some time with him.”
Wright spent his MLB career with the Mets and remains one of the more respected players in franchise history. Due to that experience, his perspective on playing in New York and handling the pressure that comes with it should be valuable for Bichette as he continues settling into the organization.
