The bonus-point victory ended France’s unbeaten run and shattered their Grand Slam ambitions in one breathtaking encounter.

Seven Scottish tries lit up Murrayfield as Gregor Townsend’s side crossed 50 points against France for the very first time. Wings Darcy Graham and Kyle Steyn helped themselves to two tries each, while Finn Russell orchestrated the backline superbly throughout.

HOSTS FLY OUT OF THE BLOCKS

Scotland struck early through Graham, who darted over following a sharp break by centre Huw Jones in the seventh minute. France hit back through Louis Bielle-Biarrey, who finished in the corner after Antoine Dupont stole possession at a scrum.

The visitors then took the lead as Bielle-Biarrey’s grubber kick found Théo Attissogbe, who cantered over for a converted try. However, Scotland responded immediately as Steyn cut back sharply to beat the French defence and score.

Pierre Schoeman then crashed over from close range in the 33rd minute to restore the Scottish lead. France’s troubles deepened when flyhalf Matthieu Jalibert received a yellow card shortly before the break. Scotland went into half-time leading 19-14.

SCOTLAND CONTINUE TO PUNISH FRANCE

Scotland came out for the second half with ruthless intent and quickly put the game beyond France. Scrum-half Ben White spotted a gap at the base of a ruck and sniped over to extend the lead to 26-14.

The moment that truly broke French resistance came when Dupont threw an uncharacteristic intercept pass on halfway. Steyn pounced on the loose ball and sprinted clear to touch down, pushing Scotland’s advantage out to 19 points.

France’s discipline then completely fell apart as winger Lenni Nouchi joined Jalibert in the sin-bin. Scotland exploited the numerical advantage ruthlessly, with Graham dancing through the fragmented French defence for his second try.

Replacement Tom Jordan then added another as Murrayfield erupted at the sight of a full French collapse. At 47-14, the contest was effectively over as a meaningful competition.

FRANCE’S LATE SURGE NOT ENOUGH

France refused to depart Edinburgh without a fight, staging a frantic late rally in the final quarter. Dupont, Thomas Ramos twice, and Oscar Jegou all crossed as the visitors chased a precious bonus point. Scotland responded with a Russell penalty that took them to a historic half-century of points in this fixture.

The final scoreline of 50-40 reflected a remarkable afternoon of attacking rugby from both sides. France ultimately secured their four-try bonus point but left Edinburgh with their Grand Slam aspirations in tatters and their perceived aura of invincibility well and truly gone.

The result means both France and Scotland now sit on 16 points heading into the final round, separated only by points difference. Ireland remain in contention on 14 points, setting up a dramatic final weekend. Scotland travel to Dublin next week knowing a victory over Ireland would deliver their first Six Nations title since 1999.
