Browns host Ohio State playmaker on 2026 NFL Draft top-30 visit

· Yahoo Sports

As the Cleveland Browns continue to work through inviting 2026 NFL Draft prospects into their building for pre-draft visits, they have brought in a local kid. Ohio State standout wide receiver Carnell Tate was in Berea to meet with the Browns on Thursday. He joins Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson and Arizona State wide receiver Jordyn Tyson as prospects who have already visited Berea this pre-draft cycle.

The Browns have an obvious need at the wide receiver position, so Tate makes sense for the Browns to bring in. Sitting with the sixth overall pick in the draft, Tate could be a target there, or a potential target if Cleveland manages to trade down the board a bit.

A reminder here, the Browns do not have to burn a top-30 visit on Tate as local prospects can visit franchises within a certain radius without using one of their pre-draft visits. This also means that Tate can visit the Cincinnati Bengals free of charge as well.

How Carnell Tate would fit with the Browns

Obviously, the Browns need a ball-winner. This is who they hoped that Cedric Tillman would become. However, despite spurts of strong play, Tillman has struggled to stay healthy and on the field. When he is on the field, inconsistent quarterback play and inconsistent ability to get open have limited his ability to contribute on a regular basis. At 6-foot-2, Tate would immediately become that ball-winner the Browns so desperately need.

There is no need to worry about the overlap of roles within the Browns' wide receiver room, as they could have an entirely new room by the beginning of the 2027 season. There is no current wide receiver in that room that should prohibit the Browns from adding a talent like Tate to their roster.
