Nelen named MVP, Lambert wins Coach of the Year for CSC DIII

Senior Miles Nelen was named Most Valuable Player and Coach John Lambert won Coach of the Year honors for the Center State Conference Division III, according to information from the conference released Monday, March 2.

According to statistics from Syracuse.com, Nelen has scored 1,320 points in three years of varsity competition, including 598 points this season. He scored 41 points against host Faith Heritage on Dec. 20. He also made 95 assists and 50 steals this season.

Seniors Jackson Crisman and Christian Lawson and junior Brody Murdock were named CSC DIII All-Stars. According to statistics from Syracuse.com for this season, Crisman has scored 397 points and made 256 rebounds, Lawson has scored 247 points with 76 assists and 60 steals, and Murdock has scored 216 points and made 82 rebounds.

Other CSC DIII All-Stars for this season are: Luke Langel, Hamilton; Gavin Baker, Morrisville; Tyler Green, Waterville; Brayden Decker, Waterville; Patrick Younglove, Morrisville; Jordan Palmer, Sherburne-Earlville; and Nolan Sigman, Sherburne-Earlville.

The defending Section III Class C champion, Cooperstown (22-0) is ranked No. 1 in Class C by the New York State Sports Writers Association. The Hawkeyes swept Division III play this season and will compete in the Section III Class C semifinals against No. 4 seeded Dolgeville at 5 p.m., Monday, at SUNY Morrisville.

The winner will play in the section championship against No. 2 Cato-Meridian or No. 3 Frankfort-Schuyler at 11 a.m., Sunday, March 8, at Onondaga Community College’s SRC Arena in Syracuse.
