Official: Amir Abdou is the new head coach of Burkina Faso
The Burkina Faso Football Federation has ended the suspense. Amir Abdou was appointed head coach of the Stallions on February 28."After opening applications and conducting a thorough review of all the candidates, Comorian coach Amir Abdou has been officially selected to lead the Burkina Faso national team," the federation announced.
He succeeds Brahima Traoré, who was dismissed following the team's early exit from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The French-Comorian coach led the Comoros to their first-ever Africa Cup of Nations Round of 16 in 2021, then made history with Mauritania by defeating Algeria in 2023. Abdou also won the Mauritanian league title twice with FC Nouadhibou. Now, at 53 years old, he leaves Hassania Agadir in the Moroccan league to take on a major challenge at the helm of an ambitious team.
The new coach will make his debut with the Stallions in March 2026. The Burkina Faso Football Federation has yet to announce the team’s opponents for the upcoming FIFA window.
